AN ASSESSMENT OF TRADITIONAL CULTURAL VALUES IN MODERATING TOXIC FEMINIST IMPACTS ON MARRIAGE: A CASE OF IBADAN COMMUNITY ELDERS

PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND AFFAIRS
Chapter One Chapters
NGN 7000

Background of the Study

Traditional cultural values in Nigeria, particularly in cities like Ibadan, have historically played a significant role in shaping marital norms and family structures. These values emphasize the roles of men and women within marriage, with clear expectations for marital fidelity, gender roles, and family responsibilities. However, the rise of toxic feminism, with its rejection of traditional gender roles and its promotion of extreme gender equality, has challenged these long-standing cultural norms. As toxic feminist ideologies continue to influence younger generations, it is important to assess how traditional cultural values, particularly those upheld by community elders in Ibadan, are moderating the impact of these ideologies on marriage.

This study will explore the role of Ibadan community elders in preserving traditional marital values and counteracting the negative effects of toxic feminism on marriage. By assessing the influence of these elders in shaping perceptions of marriage, fidelity, and family life, the research will offer insights into how traditional values can help stabilize marriage in the face of contemporary challenges.
